With a career that spans several decades, Joe's proven he has the talent and drive it takes to succeed in motorsports.

Joe started his racing career under the tutelage of his older brother Troy Ruttman and his father Ralph Ruttman. Troy's career reached its pinnacle with a win in the Indianapolis 500 in 1952. Ralph Ruttman was Troy's chief mechanic for many years and he went on to win many awards for his superior mechanical work.
After getting his start racing go-carts, Joe quickly ascended through the racing ranks. In 1980 he captured the USAC Championship. That achievement helped to push him into the national spotlight.

A few years later Joe was presented with the opportunity to run in the NASCAR Series. Joe found a home in the Series, and has had the chance to run in Winston Cup, Busch, and the Craftsman Truck divisions.
Since coming to the Truck Series, Joe has had 11 wins, 55 top 5, and 90 top 10 finishes. Although he has yet to win the Craftsman Truck Series Championship, Joe is looking to 2001 to add that prize to his already impressive list of accomplishments.
